Why do you use Llumar window film?

Llumar has been an industry leader in quality and performance since 1977. They're so confident of their products that they also offer a lifetime warranty on all of their window film.

What is the difference between IRX/CTX/ATC film?

You can think about the Llumar film we offer as good (ATC), better (CTX), and best (IRX). As you go up in quality, the performance improves in the following areas: heat rejection, color stability, and scratch resistance. Learn more from Llumar.

What do the different levels of film mean?

Film percentages refer to the amount of light that goes through the film. The lower the percentage of the film, the less light transmission. Keep in mind that heat rejection depends on the type of film you choose.

Does the film go on the inside of the window?

Yes, window film is applied to the inside of the window. It is first formed and cut on the outside and then applied to the inside of the window.

Why does it look hazy/bubbly right after installation?

The solution that allows us to move the film into place during installation will take some time to dry which is part of the the natural curing process. The moisture will evaporate as the sun hits it and the haziness or bubbly look will go away at that time.

I've heard that window tint can turn purple, why?

While lower quality film will discolor more easily, improper care can also lead to this result. Refer to our answer about window tint cleaning below.

How long will my window tint installation take?

Your installation time can vary but a typical 4 door sedan takes 2-3 hours typically. Did you know some locations offer same day appointments and walk-ins? Learn more by contacting a store.

How should I clean my window tint?

Use either a paper towel or soft cloth with ammonia free cleaner. Never use an Ammonia based window cleaner on tinted windows because it will cause discoloration over time. Please note that standard blue household window cleaner does contain Ammonia. We recommend buying ammonia free automotive glass cleaner which you can pick up at an auto parts store.

Can I roll my windows down after my tint?

The glue used to install your window tint does need time to cure so you should not roll down your windows after installation. If the weather is cooler outside we recommend you wait 3-5 days and if the weather is warmer we recommend you wait 2-3 days.

What is legal window tint?

Tinted windows in North Carolina cannot measure darker than 32% with a NC approved window tint meter. When we apply a 40% film it will meter at 32%.
Tinted windows in South Carolina cannot measure darker than 27%. When we apply a 35% film it will meter at 27%.
Your car's glass already has some tinting which is why there is a discrepancy between the percentage of film applied and the legal level percentage on a meter.

Are tint laws the same for all vehicles?

No. First you need to find your vehicle's classification which can be found on the VIN information sticker inside your vehicle. Trucks and some SUVs are permitted to tint their rear windows to any level, while cars are not.
